We have been approached by the University of Leicester who are offering to lead an archaeology club after school. I have explained, in brief, to the children about the club and many are keen to attend. There is a charge for this club, but school are subsidizing this in full, so no charge to parents.
The sessions will be led by a post-graduate student alongside a of under-graduate students from the University of Leicester. Either Mrs Underwood or Mrs Smith will be present from the Avenue team.
The club will run for eight weeks, starting on Friday 27th January and ending on Friday 24th March. The club will run from 3.30 until 4.30pm.
The sessions are based around activities linked to Roman archaeology. They will be practical and fun! The children will be looking at artefacts from the period and finding out about how and where they were discovered. During one of the sessions, the children will be acting as archaeologist and undertaking a simple dig in school. Alongside, the practical elements of the sessions the children will have the opportunity to learn some Latin.
There are 30 places in the club. We think this will be a fabulous opportunity to extend their history knowledge in a fun and informative way.
This club is full, but if you are interested in a place please speak to Miss Underwood, in the office, to go on a waiting list.
