Letter formation

 

As As we introduce letters and sounds we use a picture and show the children how it can merge into the letter shape.

Here are the phrases we use to talk about sounds:

 

s for snake – slither down the snake

a for apple – all around the apple and down the leaf

t for tower – down the tower, across the tower

p for pirate – down the plait and round the pirate’s face

i for insect – down the insect’s body, dot for the head

n for Nobby – down Nobby, over his net

m for Maisie and mountain – Maisie, mountain, mountain

d for dinosaur – round his bottom, up his tall neck and down to his feet

g for girl – round her face, down her hair, give her a curl

o for orange – all around the orange

c for caterpillar – curl around the caterpillar

k for kangaroo – down the kangaroo’s body, tail and leg

e for egg – lift off the top and scoop out the egg

u for umbrella – down and under, up to the top and draw the puddle

r for robot – down his back, then curl over his arm

h for horse – down the head to the hooves and over his back

b for boot – down the laces to the heel and round the toe

f for flower – down the stem and draw the leaves

l for leg – down the long leg

j for Jack in the box – down his body, curl and dot

v for vulture – down a wing, up a wing

w for worm – down up, down up                                

x for exercise – down the arm and leg, down the other arm and leg

y for yak – down a horn, up a horn and under his head

z for zip – zig zag zig

q for queen – round her head, up past her earrings and down her hair
