Welcome to Year 1
Expectations for the end of year 1
By the end of year 1 the children are expected to count forward to 100 (1,2,3,4,5...) and backwards from 100 (100, 99, 98, 97 …). They will also be asked to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. We are also including the phonics tricky words to practise reading and writing. These resources will be shared with parents in the Autumn term.
How often will my child read to an adult?
Your child will read to an adult 1-1 once a week and will take part in group guided reading once a week with the class teacher.
Your child should be reading to an adult at home daily and having their Reading Race Tracks signed off by the person hearing them read every day. Please remember to do this as the Race Tracks are collected in and counted every 2 weeks and your child's class want to be the class that wins the race!
You can hear the children reading their reading book, library book, comics, bedtime stories - anything they like that will promote and encourage a love of reading. Remember to sign these off on the Race Track too!
When should my child bring in their book bags?
Please make sure children bring in their book bag everyday to put letters and any work to take home.
Book bags are available to purchase from the office for £3.50.
When will my child change their book?
Your child will change their book on their designated reading day. Please bring the reading book every day.
Please make sure you child has their PE kit in school. They need black shorts, a white t-shirt and plimsolls for indoor P.E. For outdoor P.E trainers can be worn, jogging bottoms and hoodies are useful for the colder months. Please make sure that all PE kit is named.
