Autumn 1
Autumn 1
Our Topic
Our first topic will be ‘Ourselves’. We will be getting to know each other in our new class and finding out all about what makes us special. We will learn about our family history and think about what school was like for our Grandparents. We will be asking for Grandparent volunteers to come in to tell us what school was like for them. If you are interested in doing this, please let your child’s class teacher know.
Science
We will be learning all about ‘Ourselves’. How humans grow and change and what humans need to stay alive and healthy will be covered. We will also be learning about our 5 senses.
English
We will start by learning to write labels, lists and captions.
We will be looking at fine motor skills and how they help us with our writing and letter formations. Next, we will look at poetry and think about our senses. Towards half term, we will be looking at stories that are set in familiar settings such as the garden.
Maths
It is important to recap and extend the number work that your child learnt in their Foundation class. We will be learning to recognise, write and order numbers to 10, 20 and 100 by the end of the year. We will find out what makes a teen number a teen number. We will think about partitioning teen numbers into tens and units.
Reading
How often will my child read to an adult?
Your child will read to an adult 1-1 once a week and will take part in group guided reading once a week with the class teacher.
When should my child bring in their book bags?
Please make sure children bring in their book bag everyday to put letters and any work to take home.
When will my child change their book?
Your child will change their book on their designated reading day.
