During Autumn term 1, we will be focusing on getting the children used to being back at school and supporting their emotional and social well being. For the first two weeks our work will be based around the story ‘The Worrysaurus’. The children will be doing a series of activities linked to the story.
There will be some informal assessments completed so we can identify which areas of learning individual pupils need support with.
Alongside this, we will be putting in extra small sessions of core subjects to help the children catch up and familiarise themselves with concepts they may have forgotten.
After our work on ‘The Worrysaurus’ we will continue with another text linked to dinosaurs. This will focus on some story work and recapping on key skills that the children should be familiar with already in their writing. We are hoping this will build back up their confidence and resilience in writing. We will also look at a non-fiction text linked to materials which will incorporate writing labels and captions. Daily phonics lessons will continue to support the development of spellings and revise past sounds that may have been forgotten or missed.
Our focus will be on place value and the number system. We will look at the order of numbers and improve our counting skills. Children in year 2 will build on strategies and skills taught in year 1 and revise the place value of numbers up to 100. Children in year 1 will consolidate numbers to 20.
Autumn 1 will have a science focus, on materials. We will be asking questions about materials and testing them to discover their properties. Our new topic is called What is it made of?
Initially we will be looking at school and class rules and expectations. There will be new rules that need explaining and practising and these will be incorporated into this learning. We will then be looking at feelings and exploring a range of emotions.
Music – We will continue with our scheme in music, although unfortunately singing will be limited as we can only do this outside due to the current situation.
Computing – Autumn 1 will be about E- Safety, where the children will be looking at the importance of keeping safe whilst using technology.
RE – Our new unit is called Living in Harmony, How do we show we care?
PE – Indoor: Gymnastics Outdoor: Multi skills
