Our Topic
Our new topic is The Circus is Coming! At the beginning of this half term Kevin the Clown will be bringing his circus skills workshop to Year 1. The children will enjoy Kevin’s clown performance and will be taught a variety of new and exciting skills including plate spinning, juggling and even walking the tightrope! As part of this topic the children will also explore the history of the circus and circus’ around the world.
Science
In Science we will be identifying, naming and classifying animals. We will be learning all about mammals, birds, reptiles and fish. We will be seeing how the carrots we planted last term are growing and will continue with our on-going plant diary making seasonal observations about what happens to trees in Winter.
English
We will be learning how to use a dictionary and to order alphabetically in English. The children will also be writing a recount of their exciting circus day using time connectives and adjectives. They will also be using a known story to create and write their own versions of that story describing characters and settings.
Maths
In Maths the children will learn how to measure length and capacity using standard and non-standard units. They will also be learning to tell the time to hour and half hour. The children will also continue to explore and extend their addition and subtracting skills both practically and using a numberline.
We will be learning to identify and name a variety of animals and will be making an on-going plant diary/seasonal observations - winter trees- observation, photos, finding out about what happens to trees in Winter.

We will continue to think about the changing seasons and add to our on-going seasonal diary recordings. This term we will be looking at what happens to the trees in Winter. The children will be enjoying watching the carrots they planted growing.
