Reading

In the Autumn term, we concentrate on reading regularly, filling in the reading diary to achieve team points and the reading race track. The 100 sight words that children need to be able to read by the end of year 1 are attached below.

Year 1 Sight Words

Maths

Helping children to count objects in the environment and recognise numbers to 20 for example a house door number will consolidate their learning.  Number bonds to 10 (two numbers that make 10) can be discussed by using 1p coins, building blocks or fingers.

Spellings

In Autumn 1, spellings will be sent home for the children to learn. These will be 5 year 1 spellings that will be tested weekly and repeated when necessary. A good method to learn these spellings is to use the look, cover, write, check method.

Home learning for English, maths and topic will begin in the Autumn Term and children will complete these tasks set via Seesaw.

Week 1 - reading the sight words. These are words you need to know how to read and spell by the end of year 1
