Year 1 2015-2016
Welcome to Year 1
Year 1 Home Learning
This term we will begin home learning based on what your child has been learning during the week and also skills that they need to practise. Homework will be handed out on Friday in a homework folder and will need to be returned by the followingThursday please.
By the end of year 1 the children are expected to count forward to 100 (1,2,3,4,5...) and backwards from 100 (100, 99, 98, 97 …). They will also be asked to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. We are also including the phonics tricky words to practise reading and writing. We would really appreciate it if you could work on these with your child over the summer holidays. Thank you.
Reading
How often will my child read to an adult?
Your child will read to an adult 1-1 once a week and will take part in group guided reading once a week with the class teacher.
Your child should be reading to an adult at home daily and having their Reading Race Tracks signed off by the person hearing them read every day. Please remember to do this as the Race Tracks are collected in and counted every 2 weeks and your child's class want to be the class that wins the race!
You can hear the children reading their reading book, library book, comics, bedtime stories - anything they like that will promote and encourage a love of reading. Remember to sign these off on the Race Track too!
When should my child bring in their book bags?
Please make sure children bring in their book bag everyday to put letters and any work to take home.
Book bags are available to purchase from Mrs Naan at the office for £3.50.
When will my child change their book?
Your child will change their book on their designated reading day.
P.E. Kit
Please make sure you child has their PE kit in school. They need black shorts, a white t-shirt and plimsolls. Please make sure that all PE kit is labelled.
