Avenue Primary School

Where learning springs to life

How is the curriculum and environment at Avenue adapted for pupils with SEND?

At Avenue we implement Best Endeavours and Reasonable Adjustment (BERA)  to the curriculum and environment to support the individual needs of pupils.

Currently we support children through:

  • The use of a hearing loop in classrooms and assemblies for specific children.

  • Individual spaces for children with sensory issues.

  • Distraction free workstations.

  • Adaptations in classrooms and learning environment to support a variety of needs e.g. raised tables, adapted seating.

  • Adapted bathroom facilities for individual children with physical needs.

  • Safe spaces for time to manage their feelings and emotions.

We have been successful in offering children with additional needs the chance to take part in out of school activities, sports competitions and extra-curricular clubs. Pupils who have been identified with a specific need (e.g. physical) may need a personalised Risk Assessment, that allows them to safely access school trips and visits.
