How is the curriculum and environment at Avenue adapted for pupils with SEND?
At Avenue we work hard to make necessary adaptations to the curriculum and environment. We support all children and currently provide adaption for children with physical, sensory and Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) needs.
Currently we support children through:
-
The use of a hearing loop in classrooms and assemblies for specific children.
-
Individual spaces for children with sensory issues.
-
Distraction free work stations.
-
Adaptations in classrooms and learning environment to support a variety of needs eg. raised tables, adapted seating.
-
Adapted bathroom facilities for individual children with physical needs.
We have been successful in offering children with additional needs the chance to take part in out of school activities and extracurricular clubs. Pupils who have been identified with a specific need (e.g. physical) will have an individualised Risk Assessment, allowing them to safely access school trips and visits.
